A long-awaited draft bill allowing Greek citizens living abroad to vote in Greek general elections from their country of residence was tabled in parliament yesterday. In order to become law, the bill requires a two-thirds majority, or a vote by 200 of parliament's 300 MPs.
The Greek Language Center opened its doors to the public in Thessaloniki yesterday at the SAE (Council for Hellenes Abroad) offices following an initiative of the council.
The work of Academician George Lavvas will be presented by Academician Vasileios Petrakos and Professor Michalis Meimaris during a public session that will be held at the Eastern Hall of the Academy of Athens on Tuesday, February 24th 2009 at 19:00.

An important event for the local church of Cameroon took place with the recent visit of the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodore, to that country, as its President, Paul Biya issued a decree officially recognising the Orthodox Church in that large African nation. The subject - which is extremely significant for the patriarchate and for the Cameroon Holy Metropolis, as well as for the strengthening of Hellenism's relations with that country - was noted by the local press with front-page headlines, together with many references to the patriarch's visit.
