The book, “Diggers and Greeks” by expatriate historian, Dr. Maria Hill was presented in Canberra giving a greater push to the call for the greatest and more justifiably sight recognition for the Australian veterans that participated in the military operations in Greece during WWII.
A years long effort by Greek-Australian officials s come to a positive end as the first Greek Orthodox Church built in Australia, and the southern hemisphere, has been declared a historical monument and will now be included in the New South Wales Heritage Council.
Australian television viewers submitted their own personal preferences, differentiating themselves from European viewers with respect to the Eurovision Song Contest that was broadcast on Australia’s multicultural television channel SBS.
“Our aim is to invest in language, history and culture, these are the central elements around which the educational part of the Diaspora will be developed – and we will proceed to a restructuring of the Diaspora educational system.
A special invitation addressed to Hellenes abroad, to support the country by choosing Greece for their holidays this summer, will be issued by the Ministry of Culture.

Διάκριση για ελληνίδα μουσικό στη Γερμανία
Το Δεύτερο Βραβείο στον 11 Διεθνή Διαγωνισμό Σύνθεσης Μουσικής "Via Nova" με το έργο CONtrust για φλάουτο, κλαρινέτο και τσέλο κέρδισε η 25χρονη απόφοιτη του Τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών του Α.Π.Θ., Λίνα Τόνια. Ο διαγωνισμός πραγματοποιήθηκε στη Βαϊμάρη της Γερμανίας και συμμετείχαν 152 συνθέτες από 39 χώρες από όλο τον κόσμο. Επιπλέον, στο πλαίσιο του Διαγωνισμού απονεμήθηκε στη Λίνα Τόνια το Βραβείο της εκδοτικής γερμανικής εταιρίας Baerenreiter, για το ίδιο έργο. Το βραβείο συνοδευόταν από χρηματικό ποσό 500 ευρώ, μέρος του οποίου η Λίνα Τόνια χορήγησε στο Τμήμα Μουσικών Σπουδών όπου αποφοίτησε, για αγορά βιβλίων.
Η Λίνα Τόνια γεννήθηκε στην Αλεξάνδρεια Ημαθίας το 1985 και ξεκίνησε τις μουσικές σπουδές της σε ηλικία 6 ετών. Είναι υποψήφια Διδάκτωρ του Πανεπιστημίου του Εδιμβούργου με επιβλέπων καθηγητή τον Nigel Osborne. Συμμετείχε σε Πανελλήνιους και Διεθνείς Διαγωνισμούς Σύνθεσης αποσπώντας 16 Βραβεία για τα έργα της σε Θεσσαλονίκη, Αθήνα, Πάτρα, Λονδίνο, Μόσχα, Φιλιππούπολη, Σόφια, Τύρανα, Νέα Υόρκη, Βαϊμάρη. Το Μάρτιο του 2010 συμμετείχε στο 9ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Γυναικών Συνθετών που έγινε στην Πενσυλαβάνια των Η.Π.Α. με παρουσίαση έργου της.
