In keeping with its long tradition, the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia, in cooperation with the Leonidas Pallakoniko Association, has invited all Greek-Australians to honour with their presence Polytechnic Day, on Tuesday, November 17, at 7.30pm at the Olympic Hall, 288 Franklin Street, Adelaide.

Australian MPs of Greek origin met in the West Australian parliament in Perth recently, within the framework of the annual meeting of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association (WHIΡA), Oceania Region. The Greek-Australian lawmakers decided to raise public awareness in relation to the return of Parthenon marbles to Greece from the British Museum, according to the WHIPA president and state MP for Victoria, Giannis Pantazopoulos.
An exhibit with works of artists from Greece, Romania, Serbia, Albania and Bulgaria will in an exhibit organized by the Melenia Art Gallery, the Cotroceni National Museum and the Romanian branch of Alpha Bank on November 19th in Bucharest. The exhibit will run until January 15, 2010 at the National Cotroceni Museum in Bucharest.
New book by Ioustini Frangouli-Argyri

A new novel by author Ioustini Gragouli-Argyri titled “For the love of others” (Psyhogios publications) was recently presented in Athens’ King George Palace Hotel. Present at the event were, from New York, her son of the book heroine, John Katsimatides, a high profile member of the Greek-American community, together with his wife Margo and their son, John.
Greek Films travel to Washington

Two Greek Films are being showcased in Washington within the framework of the 22nd European Union Film Showcase organized by the European Union with the screening of films from all EU members states.
The films are: “Athens-Constatinople” by Nikos Panayiotopoulos to be screened today, November 12th and “Small Crime” by Christos Georgiou to be screened on Sunday November 22nd and Tuesday, November 24th. The screenings will take place at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Cenetr 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Springs, Maryland.

Κυπριακές εκδηλώσεις στην Αυστραλία
Την τιμητική τους θα έχουν οι εκδηλώσεις κυπριακού περιεχομένου στην Αδελαΐδα στα τέλη Ιουνίου και αρχές Ιουλίου, οι οποίες θα είναι ενταγμένες στο 8ο Διεθνές Συνέδριο Ελληνικών Ερευνών, που θα διοργανώσει το Τμήμα Νεοελληνικών του Πανεπιστημίου Flinders.
Στον πρώτο κύκλο θα μιλήσουν στα Ελληνικά ο Δρ. Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης από το πανεπιστήμιο της Κύπρου (θέμα: Αντιλήψεις της Αυστραλιανής Κυβέρνησης για το ενδιαφέρον της Σοβιετικής Ένωσης στο Κυπριακό, 1964) και ο αναπληρωτής καθηγητής του αυτού πανεπιστημίου Γεώργιος Καζαμίας (θέμα: Νέα στοιχεία για την ιστορία της Τουρκικής εισβολής).
Ο δεύτερος κύκλος, θα είναι στα Αγγλικά, και θα μιλήσουν ο Δρ. Μιχάλης Μιχαήλ, από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου- Τμήμα Τουρκικών και Μεσανατολικών Σπουδών (θέμα: «Οθωμανικό πλαίσιο εξουσίας και βυζαντινά σύμβολα: Η περίπτωση των Αρχιεπισκόπων Κύπρου», και ο Δρ. Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης από το Τμήμα Ιστορίας και Αρχαιολογίας, επίσης του πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (θέμα: Η αυστραλιανή συνεισφορά στην δύναμη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών στην Κύπρο).
Στην αγγλική του τοποθέτηση ο Καθηγητής Καζαμίας (και εκείνος του Τμήματος Ιστορίας και Αρχαιολογίας) θα αναπτύξει το θέμα ««An hour away from war?" British military initiatives in Cyprus during the Turkish invasion of 1974».
Η Δρ. Βαρβάρα Ανδρέκου από το Τμήμα Ιστορίας του Flinders University θα μιλήσει με θέμα "Cyprus: Political modernity and the structures of Democracy in a divided Island".
Ο Καθηγητής Ευάγγελος Κουφουδάκης από τα πανεπιστήμια Indiana University-Purdue - University of Nicosia, επέλεξε φέτος να αναφερθεί στο "The European Convention of Human Rights and the Resolution of the Cyprus Problem".
Ο Καθηγητής Ανδρέας Θεοφάνους από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Κύπρου θα αναφερθεί στις «Ευρωτουρκικές σχέσεις και την Κύπρο».
Υπάρχει και ένας τρίτος κύκλος κυπριακών εκδηλώσεων, με τον Καθηγητή Κουφουδάκη να μιλά για την «Ευρωπαϊκή σύμβαση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων και την επίλυση του Κυπριακού», και τον Καθηγητή Θεοφάνους για την «Ανάγκη νέας πορείας για την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία».
Η Melenia Art Gallery μαζί με το Εθνικό Μουσείο Cotroceni και την Alpha Bank Ρουμανίας παρουσιάζουν Βαλκανική Έκθεση Έργων Σύγχρονης Τέχνης, την Πέμπτη 19 Νοεμβρίου 2009.
