Deputy Foreign Minister, Theodoros Kassimis is in Constantinople where he represented the Greek government at the celebrations being held at the Ecumenical Patriarchate mark the feast day of St. Andrew, the Orthodox Patriarchate's patron saint.After the ceremony, Mr. Kassimis attended a formal luncheon hosted by Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholemew, while later in the afternoon, he attended a reception at the Patriarchal Throne Hall at the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholemew, had telephone communication with ailing Archbishop Christodoulos, to whom he reiterated his best wishes and those of his congregation to the ailing leader of the Greek Church. In turn, Mr. Christodoulos expressed his best wishes to the Patriarch for yesterday’s celebrations being held at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Fanar district to mark the feast day of St. Andrew, the Orthodox Patriarchate's patron saint.

Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos yesterday sent a draft decree – foreseeing a new autonomous department to better deal with immigrant issues – to President Karolos Papoulias for approval. The decree would transform the ministry’s unit for the social integration of immigrants into an independent department handling the influx and integration of immigrants and refugees. It would also oversee conditions at migrant reception centers.
