25,888 expatriates from European Union countries voted to elect the new members of the European Parliament. 36,413 citizens had registered to vote in the June 7th in the special catalogues. The ruling New Democracy party garnered 40,06% of the vote, with PASOK in second place at 33,53%.

Mihalis Vasiliades, a second generation Greek, will be the new president of the third largest syndicate group in Germany, BCE Syndicate (Bergau, Chemie und Energie) according to German press reports. Vasiliades will also be the first president in a German syndicate originating from a migrant family.
