The International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis has extended its reach to faraway New Zealand, establishing branches in Auckland and Wellington.
This initiative
made it possible for the president of the society, George Stassinakis,
to visit that country and take part in events marking the 50th
anniversary of the great Greek writer’s death. Within the framework of events, the Greek ambassador in New Zealand,
Evangelos Damianakis, presented the work of Kazantzakis, while a
lecture was given by Professor Alfred Vincent on the subject of Zorba.
The events were attended by embassy representatives, presidents of
Greek communities, Greek-New Zealanders, university lecturers and NZ
officials. A series of lectures will now be organized at Shanghai and
Beijing universities.
