SAE President Stefanos P. Tamvakis visited the Greeks in Lebanon responding to an invitation by the president of the Greek Community in Beirut Panagiotis Andriotis.
During his stay in the capital of Lebanon, Tamvakis had successive meetings with Greece's Ambassador to Lebanon Panos Kalogeropoulos, the board members of the Greek Community in Beirut and members of Youth, the president of the Greek Community in Tripoli and Metropolitan Audi of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch in Lebanon.
In the meeting with the board members of the Greek Community in Beirut, the SAE president was briefed by President Panagiotis Andriotis on issues that concern the Greek expatriates living in the hospitable country of Lebanon and saw the great interest that exists in the community to learn the Greek language and organize cultural events of Greek interest.
The Greek language courses organized by the Community in Beirut are met with great response and need to be supported, Andriotis stressed, underlining the great interest expressed by Ambassador Panos Kalogeropoulos. They also stressed the close cooperation with SAE Africa, Near & Middle East Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis. The establishment of a Greek Cultural Center in Beirut is in the immediate plans and the events it will host are expected to cause a sensation in the philhellenist local community.
"Boosting the teaching of our language and promoting the Greek culture in the local community are in the immediate priorities of the Greek Community in Tripoli as well," its president Dr. Panagiotis Karkas stressed.
On his part, Tamvakis briefed the Greek expatriates on the goals and activities of SAE focusing on the unity of Hellenism worldwide. He also referred to the "Speak Greek - Live Greek" Programme launched by SAE to contribute to the distance learning of our language and pledged to support the demand for textbooks.
In all his meetings the SAE President expressed his great satisfaction for the laudable efforts made by the roughly 3,000 Greeks in Lebanon to preserve their Greek identity and pass the Greek values on to the worthy members of the young generation.
The great respect of the people of Lebanon toward Greece was expressed to the president of SAE by the members of the Association of the Lebanese Graduates of Greek Universities headed by President Dr. Giorgos Sheib who stressed that their love for Greece, which they never forget, is unquestionable. The members of this active association participate in every event organized by the Greek community.

In the courtesy visit with Metropolitan Bishop Audi, held in the presence of the Greek Ambassador, Tamvakis stressed that SAE supports all our Patriarchates, with the Ecumenical Patriarchate being at the top and expressed satisfaction for the respect enjoyed by the Greek Orthodox faithful in Lebanon.
The SAE President attended a charity event hosted by the Greek Community in Beirut held in the presence of Greece's Ambassador Panos Kalogeropoulos, Lebanese government ministers, president emeritus of the Greek Community in Beirut Dimitris Papadopoulos and many guests. The youth folk dance group won the hearts of the people attending the event.
