Greek scientist Angelos Vourlidas – who was the first person in the world to record solar typhoons - was received yesterday by the Dean of Thessaloniki’s Aristoteleio University, Anastasios Manthos, who congratulated the graduate of the university’s Physics Department on his global discovery. The phenomenon of solar typhoons was evidenced in July 2007, when a research team, headed by Vourlidas, recorded for the first time photographs of the collision of a comet with a solar mass originating from a solar explosion. The collision produces geomagnetic storms that can affect satellites, radio communications and electrical energy systems. The impressive images of the collision were recorded by five solar space telescopes installed on the twin satellites, STEREO, which were launched in 2000. Set as favorite Email This Σχόλια
