The Hellenic Foundation for Culture organizes a two-day cultural program (5-6 March) marking the inauguration of its new centre in Tirana.
The events include a tribute to the poet C.P. Cavafy and a musical performance with traditional songs from Greece and Albania.
The tribute "Travelling with C.P. Cavafy" is presented on 5 March at the HFC Centre, which is housed in the Arsakeio School. The tribute will be inaugurated by the President of the HFC, Professor G. Babiniotis. The program includes: . An exhibition about the life and work of C.P. Cavafy based on archival material (a production of the Centre for Neo-Hellenic Studies/Cavafy Arhive) . A Book-fair on Cavafy's poetry in translation (a production of HFC in collaboration with EKEBI and the Cavafy Museum). The Arsakeio School Choir will perform Greek and Albanian songs followed by poetry readings of Cavafy's selected works in Albanian. The actress Mrs. Ema Andrea will read in Albanian. Mrs. Andrea is known from performing the role of "Medea", last summer at the Athens Festival (stage director: M. Kalemi).
The next day (6 March), the HFC organizes a concert with the music group "Argo" performing traditional Greek songs by Ravel, works of Constantinidis, Yiosif Miga and Alabanian songs from the anthology of Lola Gioka, accompanied by the Arsakeio School Choir.
"C.P. Cavafy believed that his poetry is the "poetry of the future" - mentions the President of the HFC, Professor Mr. G. Babiniotis, in the catalogue that comes along with the exhibition. "Today, 75 years after his death, the universal recognition of Cavafy's poetry and the admiration expressed, justified the poet's expectations", adds Mr. Babiniotis.
Duration of the exhibition: 6 March - 5 April 2009
Opening hours: Daily 10a.m-2p.m και 5a.m-7.30p.m
