Dr. Olga Sarantopoulos, Secretary of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) has visited the historic villages of Fikardou and Vavatsinia in Cyprus.
Attendants of the 16th Worldwide Conference of Oversea Cypriots, bid farewell to the Director of the Cyprus foreign ministry Division of Overseas and Repatriated Cypriots Ambassador Charalambos Ioannidis, who has taken up this position after a long and dedicated course of support towards the Diaspora, by means of a modest event.
The Council for Hellenes Abroad, SAE Oceania, announced during a special event the organization of the Pan-Hellenic Sports and Cultural Games of Oceania, to be held in November in Melbourne.
The 2nd consecutive open gathering of the omogeneia was organized by SAE Oceania. Last week’s meeting took place in Melbourne, followed by Sydney and will include more meetings in other cities throughout September.
The Federation of Greek Orthodox communities of Australia announced that it had handed over to the relevant authorities and bodies the sum of $50, 863 which had been collected during various drives and fund raisers following initiatives of the Federation and its community-members, for the assistance of victims of the February 7th catastrophic fires in Victoria State.

Golf Championship of Hellenes Abroad

For the 5th consecutive year, fans of Greek descent from all over the world, who share a love for Golf, will gather in Greece to compete in the 5th annual Golf Championship of Hellenes Abroad (formerly known as the International Golf Championship of the Diaspora). The Championship is run under the auspices of the Greek Golf Federation and of the Greek National Tourism Organization. The players will compete in a 36-hole Stroke Play Game on the 28th and the 29th of August. The championship will be concluded by the award ceremony which will take place after the game on Saturday night at “Glyfada Golf Club”.
“We are happy to accommodate the 5th Championship of Hellenes Abroad in the historical golf court of Attica”, stated Mr. Petros Doukas, president of the Greek Golf Federation. “We are on the verge of further developments of Golf in Greece (especially now that “golf” will be upgraded into an Olympic sport) and this championship will give us the opportunity to celebrate and communicate this to our brothers in the Diaspora, to come closer with them and to discover new and worthy players”
