The inauguration ceremony of the new Museum was executed by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, His Beautitude Theodoros II and Mr. Stefanos P. Tamvakis and Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr. George Diakofotakis. The Patriarch of Alexandria dedicated the museum in memory of His late predecessor, Nicolaos VI’.
On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Tamvakis offered a gift to honour his Beautitude, the only available publication in international bibliography of the poem “Polis” which was released by SAE to commemorate the 75th anniversary since the death and 145th anniversary since the birth of the great poet Constantine Cavafy. The publication of this collectible edition, which was published in thirty different languages, was a result of an initiative taken by the President of SAE.
The President of SAE earlier attended the Divine Liturgy, officiated by the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa in the Holy Patriarchal Church of St. Savvas of Alexandria, which was full of pilgrims, on the occasion of the feast in memory of the Saints Athanasios and Kyrilos, Patriarchs of Alexandria.
Later on the Patriarch performed the blessing of the traditional new year’s cake (vasilopita) at the Branch of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Alexandria. The ceremony was attended apart from the General Consul of Greece in Alexandria and SAE President, by his Grace Bishop Gabriel, Patriarchal Vicar and Bishop of Mareotis, Clerics of the Patriarchal Court, representatives of all Hellenic Association and Educational Organisations, in the presence of the Hellenic Community of this Great City.
