South Australian premier Mike Rann has sparked an international diplomatic furore by accusing the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) of stealing Greek culture and its leader, Gjorge Ivanov, of “stirring up trouble in the most dangerous way”. He made the comments in a speech at the Dimitria Greek festival in Adelaide.

The international promotion of Greece through the organization of the Classical Marathon was proposed by Deputy Foreign Minister, Dimitris Droutsas in an interview to ERA 5 radio. Roger Wilkins, the special advisor to Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, is one of the five world experts to be appointed by Prime Minister George Papandreou to be part of the Committee for the Modernizing of the Government.
