The World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE), the Worldwide Federation of Oversea Cypriots (POMAK) and the International Coordinating Committee “Justice for Cyprus” are strengthening their efforts, towards the realization of their vision of Hellenes worldwide, for a united and prosperous Cyprus. This was the message which was transferred to the President of the Republic Of Cyprus, Mr. Dimitris Christophias, by the leaders of the Diaspora, in a meeting they had last night at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
The President of the Republic of Cyprus informed the attendants on recent developments of the Turkish-occupied Cyprus issues, by emphasizing on the fact that settlement is sought which will lead to the termination of the Turkish occupation and the unification of Cyprus, within the framework of a bizonal, bi-communal federation. The briefing was followed by a series of questions placed by attendants of Diaspora, which were answered by the President of the Republic of Cyprus. The President thanked them deeply for their support towards the Cypriot government and for their constant provision of help in the issue of Turkish-Occupied Cyprus. The Minister of Foreign affairs, Mr. Markos Kyprianou and Governmental Representative, Mr. Stefanos Stefanou, were also present in the meeting. Within the framework of their meeting, the President of SAE, Mr. Stefanos P. Tamvakis, thanked the President of the Republic of Cyprus, for the comprehensive briefing, emphasizing on the drastic actions which are being taken by Members of the SAE Board, in every continent, in close cooperation with POMAK and PSEKA, aiming towards a wider promotion of the issues regarding the occupation of Cyprus. The Presidents of PSEKA and POMAK, Mr. Harry Sophokleides and Mr. Phillip Christopher, the President of NEPOMAK, Mr. Christos Karaolis, the Honrary President of SAE, Mr. Andrew Athens, as well as Presidents of various Cypriot Federations of the Diaspora. As far as the Directorate Board of SAE is concerned, the briefing was attended by the Secretary of SAE Ms. Olga Sarantopoulou, Coordinators of SAE Regions; Mr. Theodoros Spiropoulos of SAE USA, Mr. Konstantinos Menegakis of SAE Canada, Mr. Harry Gouvelis of SAE of Africa and Middle East, Mr. Nikiforos Nicolaides of SAE Central and South America and the representative of SAE Oceania and Far East, Mr. Michalis Christodoulou.
The meeting was preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of the Late Archbishop Makarios the 3rd in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace, by the Presidents of PSEKA, POMAK, NEPOMAK and SAE. The evening was concluded by a reception which was held at the Presidential Palaced by the President of the Republic of Cyprus and Mrs. Elsi Christophias, in honor of al attendees of the 16th Worldwide Conference of Overseas Cypriots.
