Forbes’ 2010 list of the world’s top 1000 billionaires again includes several Greeks or Greek-Americans. Below you can see the names of the five Greek-Americans who made the list starting with their position, name, age and net worth.
Nicholas Kiriakakis, a 25-year-old Queens restaurant/lounge owner, was released on bail on Friday following charges of double homicide and one count of criminal possession of a handgun. Bail was set at $2 million. He pleaded not guilty on Monday to the shooting deaths of two New York City men on a Teaneck street last month.
A Greek from Cyprus, Chrysostomos L. (”Max”) Nikias, will become the 11th president of the University of Southern California on August 3, 2010. His appointment was announced by Edward P. Roski Jr., chairman of the USC Board of Trustees.

Struggle for maintaining Greek language teaching in Australia

Melbourne – The possibility that Greek language teaching may be eliminated from the Australian National Language Teaching Program – being drafted by ACARA – has mobilised Greek-Australians. Ethnic Greek politicians and teachers, community officials and ordinary people have been “recruited” in the common effort to retain Greek as a “priority language”, which it has enjoyed for the past 30 years, and to be incorporated in the program.
The “Neos Kosmos” newspaper has started a campaign to collect signatures that will be sent to the education minister and will be submitted to national parliament by Greek-Australian politicians.
