The Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore II yesterday praised the message of reconciliation sent to Muslims and Arabs by US President Barack Obama in his speech at Cairo University earlier that day, stressing that the Alexandria Patriarchate supported any initiative promoting the harmonious coexistence of Christians and Muslims.

Theodore II visits Orthodox Maasai

Wearing their traditional costumes, which comprise part of their daily lives, and with songs and dances - even in the church - the Maasai of Kenya welcomed the Patriarch of Alexandria, Theodore II to their village some 30 kms from Nairobi. It was the first visit by the Alexandria-based Greek Orthodox prelate to that country, where there are five Orthodox parishes, four of which are located at the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The Orthodox Maasai meticulously observe their customs and traditions and this is what Patriarch Theodore also urged them to do. In addition, he said that young people constituted the future of their country and much was also expected of them by Orthodoxy.
