Dolly Goulandris, founder of the Cycladic Art Museum, passed away last Friday after a brief battle with cancer. In 1985, Goulandris founded The Nicholas P. Goulandris Foundation, which she led for years.
The following year, she inaugurated the Museum of Cycladic Art to house the rich collection of Cycladic and ancient Greek artifacts she had been collecting with her husband since 1960. The Museum currently boasts more than 3,000 exhibits, while temporary exhibitions are hosted every now and then. Her funeral was scheduled for coming Tuesday. Her funeral took place today at Aghios Dionysios Areopagitis church at Athens' Skoufa Street. In the meantime, Culture Minister Mihalis Liapis on Friday evening extended his condolences over the death of Dolly Goulandri,. "Greek culture lost an important personality. Dolly Goulandri created one of the most modern and important museums of Greece. She contributed a great deal in the protection and projection of our cultural heritage. She leaves a legacy to the younger generations who will remember her for ever. I express my sincere condolences to her family for her loss," Liapis said. Set as favorite Email This Σχόλια
