The Greek government's announcement about pension payments for expatriate Greeks is becoming a reality. From October 1, 55,000 pensioners of Greek origin who live in Australia, are obliged to submit applications for the payment of pensions from Greece.
The applications will be collected by Centrelink and subsequently sent to Greece for checking. Thus, Greek pension funds will begin checks in order to ascertain if the applicants are eligible, as well as the amount of the pension. Since September 1, Centrelink has introduced informative seminars for groups of elderly people, in order to inform those who receive old age pensions from the Australian government that there will be changes in the system, following implementation of the bilateral agreement between Greece and Australia.
