Greek “flavors” in Washington |

In the presence of the Greek ambassador to the US, Alexandros Mallias, a 15 day Modern Greek culinary festival was inaugurated at Zaytinya restaurant in Washington, famous for its Mediterranean cuisine.
The American
public warmly welcomed the creative contemporary cooking techniques of
Athens Master Chef, Christoforos Peskias and enjoyed eclectic Greek
wines in a wonderful atmosphere in the heart of the US city. The
reaturant’s culinary festival will run until Spetember 22nd. Chef Christoforos Peskias of 48 The Restaurant, to Washington DC for the Greek Modern Festival September 8-22 During Zaytinya's two week festival, Chef Peskias, along with his pastry chef Theodoros Moisides, will partner with Jose Andres' team led by Chef Mike Isabella to create exciting menu items showcasing the best in Modern Greek fare. Special additions to Zaytinya’s menu will be available during lunch and dinner and range in price from $8 to $14. Guests can also sample exciting cocktails (priced at $10) based on 48 The Restaurant’s recipes. The Chios Martini features skinos, an unusual liqueur flavored with mastic, blended with sake and gin. Santorini’s Lava is a traditional bloody mary with Greek accent thanks to the introduction of ouzo. The restaurant also highlights the great wines of Greece during this festival. A special flight will be offered for $25 and will include Evharis Eva Sparkling Moschofilero, Hatzidakis Assyrtiko Santorini 2007 (white), Dalamara Xinomavro Naoussa 2002 (red) and Samos Muscat of Samos Vin Doux. About Chef Peskias Chef Peskias trained with master chefs including Joel Robuchon, Ferran Adrià and Charlie Trotter, and is among the handful credited with changing the dining scene of Athens, Greece. Peskias has received international acclaim for his work and has been recognized by American publications such as Food & Wine magazine. 48 The Restaurant has been named as one of top 100 restaurants of the world by Restaurant magazine.
