A Greek Open University will now operate in Adelaide, after first beginning in Sydney last August, on the initiative of the Council for Hellenes Abroad (CHA) Oceania Region, and supported by a number of Greek-Australian organisations.
At a meeting held in the South Australian state capital, the idea of an open university was presented by Dr. Michalis Tsianikas, who is in charge of the Modern Greek Department at Flinders University. According to CHA Oceania coordinator George Angelopoulos, the facility will begin operating in early 2009. Angelopoulos noted that the strong presence of young Greek-Australians at the Adelaide meeting was extremely encouraging. The youngsters submitted numerous questions about their youth network, which is currently being established, as well as about the structure, operation and aims of the CHA.
