An important tribute dedicated to Rigas Feraios opened on Wednesday at the Center of Cutural-Social Intervention “Foteines Diadromes” at the Basilica of St. Mark in Heraklion, Crete. Various discussions were presented within the framework of the event by, among others, George Kontogiorgis, professor of Political Science and former rector of Panteion University, Cyril Topalov, Philhellene and professor of Balkan Philology at the University of Sofia, and Thanasis Valtinos, President of the Association of Authors.In addition, two exhibits relating to Rigs Feraios were also inaugurated at St. Marks Basilica. The first is an art exhibit with works inspired by Rigas Feraios while the second exhibit is of a historic nature and includes a book, periodical and map exhibit with material from the personal collection of Dr. Dimitris Karabelopoulos. A concert was also held within the framework of events which presented songs excerpts from “Thourios” set to the music of Dimitris Maramis. The exhibit on Rigas Feraios lasts until April 30th and all proceeds will be allocated for the projection of the ancient city of Arkadon’s cultural heritage in the region of Kefala, Iniou.
