With instructions from the Parliamentary Speaker Dimitris Sioufas, the secretary-general of parliament, Nikos Stefanou, accompanied by other officials, visited Cyprus for meetings with their Cypriot counterparts on September 8 and 9.
A disagreement between the two major parties, governing New Democracy and main opposition PASOK, is dashing hopes that the Diaspora vote will be ratified within 2008. The September 9th disagreement broke out during a meeting at the Greek Foreign Ministry chaired by foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis.
