The 33rd annual American Hellenic Institute Dinner Dance successfully took place last Saturday at the Capitol Hilton Hotel near The White House.
The annual "Hellenic Heritage Achievement and National Public Service Awards" were handed out to distinguished Greek-American, Anna Lee, President of the Society for the Preservation of Greek Heritage, Antonis Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Foundation, Greek-American senator from Ohio, Zack Space and Greek-Americna actress, Melina Kanakarides. This year's newly established "First AHI Religious Freedom Award" was bestowed upon Archbishop of America, Demetrios, by the founder and president of the foundation, Eugene Rossides. Among the dignitaries at the lavish affair were the foundation's director, Nick Larygkakis, the ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus, Alexandros Mallias and Andreas Kakouris respectively and former ambassadors, Loukas Tsilas and Michael Sotirhos.
