A delegation from the Greek Parliament visited Greeks living in Egypt on the occasion of celebrations for the March 25 Greek Independence Day.
Parliamentary deputies Fotini Pipili from the New Democracy party and Ioannis Drivelegas from the main opposition Pasok party have been in Alexandria since Monday, to participate in the events organised by the local Greek community to mark the 187th anniversary of the 1821 Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire. The revolution marked the start of its war of independence against Ottoman rule in 1821 and the birth of the modern Greek nation. The events will continue until April 2.
