Greek 19th and 20th century artists fetched a total of 11,865,176 euros at Sotheby’s Greek Sales. Many of the 176 paintings sold at the auction exceeded initial price estimates. Georgios Iakovidis’s “Grandfather’s New Pipe” brought the sale’s top price at 664,534 euros. Paintings by Greek artists Volanakis, Parthenis, Gyzis, Diamantopoulos, Lytras, Theophilos and Bouzianis also sold at high prices, reports Kathimerini.
