Συντάχθηκε απο τον/την Μπάμπης Παπαδάκης
During a special ceremony, Greece’s Ambassador to London, Vasilis Pispinis, unveiled a special plaque honoring Admiral Edward Codrington from the battle of Navarino, an event that changed the course of the battle, the ambassador noted. Mr. Pispinis spoke on detail abou the events that led to the Naval Battle of Navarino, highlighting the decisiveness of Admiral Codrington and his role in the negotiations in Alexandria. These historic events led to the withdrawal of the Ottoman and Egyptian forces from the Peloponese and to the independence of Greece.
Admiral Codrington, the ambassador noted, is considered and honored in Greece as a person whose initiative and decisiveness literally changed the course of the Greek struggle for independence. A central street in Athens has been named after Admiral Codrington (Kodrikotonos street).
The initiative to place the honorary plaque at the home of the British Admiral was assumed by the municipality of Brighton within the framework of the “blue plaque” program which is aimed at securing and promoting the cultural heritage and history of the area.
