The Greek Open University – taking into consideration increased interest on the part of foreigners for Hellenic studies – is examining the possibility of opening branches abroad, especially in Canada and the Ukraine. The university was founded in 1992, based in Patras. Today it has 30,000 students throughout Greece (of which 85% are working) and operates in nine cities nationwide (Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Yannena, Tripoli, Xanthi, Komotini and Crete).
