Australian municipalities are “small Greeces” |

In the centre-west Sydney suburb of Burwood, on the initiative of Greek-Australian municipal councilors and the former mayor, Christos Christogiorgis, the 187th anniversary of Greece’s Independence Day was celebrated on March 25, and it is no exaggeration to say that the main hall was transformed into a small Greece.
The flag decorations, as well as the presence of the area’s
Greek-Australian citizens – including the president of the local Greek
Orthodox community of “St. Nectarios”, Christos Syrios – was more
reminiscent of a Greek municipality rather than an Australian one. In both Greek and English, Christogiorgis referred to the significance of the Greek national holiday and stressed the contribution of ethnic Greek citizens in the progress made by the local municipality and the broader region.
