An expatriate Greek, Giorgos Sapounidis, has been selected by the Chinese Olympic Committee to participate in the transfer of the Olympic Flame to Beijing. Sapounidis is the only non-Chinese citizen who will take part in the event.
An employee of
the Canadian Statistical Service, 50-year-old Sapounidis plays the
bouzouki in his spare time and translates Greek rebetika songs into
Chinese. Born in Montreal of Greek parents, in 1957, he began classical guitar lessons in 1970 and studies mathematics and statistics at Toronto University. He speaks and sings in nine languages: Greek, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Persian Hebrew and Arabic. Set as favorite Email This Σχόλια
