On Sunday October 11th the Athenian Society will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Athens from the German occupational forces at an event ot be held at the Archdiocese Cultural Center in Astoria, Queens at 4.30 pm.
The 4th “Odysseas” Hellenic Cultural Festival, organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia, opened on Thursday, October 1 at the Palace Nova cinema in Adelaide.
“At the last minute, I decided to follow my heart and study Classical Philology, instead of something ‘useful’”, says young Hellenist scholar Elena Gonzales.

Greeks of Constantinople to hold first festival

The Greeks of Constantinople are organizing their first festival paving the way for the celebration to become an annual institution. Events open of Saturday October 10th at 11am at the Byzantine Athletic Park in Alimos. The celebration’s official opening will take place that evening at 6pm, while the events will continue to Sunday October 11th. The Byzantine Athletic Park will host exhibits and kiosques of Constantinopolite associations active in Greece and abroad, which with their years-long activities, have safeguarded the traditions of Constantinople. Visitors will have the opportunity to see films concerning Constantinople, sports events, lectures, photographic exhibitions, musical concerts, traditional music events, choirs, and a dance presentation. One of the event’s highlights will also be a cooking and desert-making seminar. Access for visitors to the Byzantine Athletic Park (Megali to genous sholi 10, Alimos) will be made possible with mini-vans that will be at the Dafni metro station.
