Two US Republican house members of the American Congress's Foreign Affairs Committee have called on US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to urge the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to agree to use a name that would be mutually acceptable by Greece.
They said Rice should take all possible measures to encourage FYROM to agree to a future official name, that would be accepted by both Athens and Skopje, and to utilize the visit by United Nations special envoy Matthew Nimetz to Greece and FYROM, so that efforts by the American government are renewed to reach a settlement of the long-standing issue. The number of House members who support a resolution calling on FYROM to comply with the UN interim agreement, now comes to 101, they pointed out - indicating that the issue is an important concern for Congress.
