A message on the March 25th Greek Independence Day was sent by the secretary of the Council for Hellenes Abroad (CHA) and president of the Hellenic Society of Austria, Olga Sarantopoulou, who noted that Greeks all over the world were celebrating the 187th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution against the Turks in 1821. In her message, she pointed out that the people’s uprising impacted the whole of Europe, creating a philhellene movement. Thousands of foreigners fought beside the Greeks, believing in the sacred aim and swept away by the courage, the determination and the spiritual strength of the Greek men and women struggling for their liberation. In conclusion, she urged the continuation of a course that leads to unity and the retention of the Greek identity, the Orthodox faith and the cultural values of Greece.
