World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) President Stefanos P. Tamvakis paid a ceremonial visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on the occasion of the celebration of the Feast of the Annunciation of Theotokos. The SAE president attended the doxology at the Evangelistria Church in Vafochori this morning officiated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. On March 24, the SAE president was received by the Head of the Orthodox Church in the Phanar. During the meeting, which was held in a cordial atmosphere, Tamvakis conveyed the board members’ love and respect to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew reaffirming the unreserved support to the Ecumenical Patriarchate on behalf of the organization representing the Hellenes worldwide. The Ecumenical Patriarch listened carefully to the briefing offered by Tamvakis on the multifaceted development of SAE, the actions and efforts made to increase membership in its seven Regions and Youth networking. Tamvakis also referred to the annual report to be submitted by SAE to the Greek Parliament on March 26 for the first time based on the new Enabling Law regulating the Council’s operation. The SAE president expressed the will for even greater cooperation with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the rest Orthodox Patriarchates and the Archdiocese of Athens and All Greece through the non-governmental organization “Desmos” instituted by SAE. The World Council of Hellenes Abroad, stressed Tamvakis, is not substituting for any organization and its firm goal is the full activation of its advisory, consultative and supportive role stressing the Greeks’ abroad unreserved support to Greece and the Beacons of Orthodoxy headed by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew expressed satisfaction for developments in SAE, which he stressed that he watches with great interest, as well as the new perspective characterizing its activities. He expressed the wish that progress will continue and blessed president Tamvakis and the board members. During his visit to Istanbul, the SAE President also met with Neochorio Greek Community President Pantelis Vigas who briefed him on the reactivation of the Greek foundations in the city. Tamvakis stressed that SAE is constantly expanding to embrace the Greeks worldwide deeming as imperative and substantive the accession of the Greek foundations into the world organization.
